GCE 'O' LEVEL SYLLABUS
COMPUTER STUDIES
GCE Ordinary Level/SC(7010)
The GCE ‘O’ Level Computer Studies scheme of work aims to develop `students’ ability, foster interest, confidence about computing and also develop awareness in students of the importance of computing in society and the rise in use of computers in society.
The syllabus concentrates on the principles of information processing details including hardware, software and application as well as its implications to society. The syllabus also incorporates the practical proficiency in carrying out a practical project by employing knowledge gained through the study of the different component in this syllabus.
Scheme of assessment divided into two categories. Paper 1 is 2 ½ hours (75%) short answer and structured questions with no choice. Paper 2 is project work (25%) Project work will be assessed by Analysis, Design, implementation, testing, documentation, system maintenance and technical skill.
Assessment objectives based on knowledge and understanding, problem solving and realization and communication. (See `Grid’ table)
This syllabus attached with notes for the guidance of teacher which is easier and useful to guide their students and also have Individual candidate record card, Course work assessment summary form, assessment criteria for coursework. All coursework assessment must be received by CIE not later than 31 October.
All the topics in this syllabus related to that application. All sections of this syllabus are similar like PMB, but this is more in detail. The sections of syllabus are following:
1. Applications of computers and their social economic implications.
2. System analysis.
3. Problem solution.
4. Generic software and the organization of data.
5.Hardware, systems and communications
